序言一

20 世紀末，「全球化」議題成為顯學並影響我們，由全球化延伸而來的「本 土化」、「在地化」現象也陸續成為大家關注的議題。臺灣樂壇則以「本土化」 的概念掀起一波探索城市文化的熱潮，以音符描繪城市景觀，以聲景紀錄常 民活動，為後人留下文化烙印，為不同年代留下時代精神。

臺北市立國樂團推出《臺灣・福爾摩沙》專輯，以臺灣的山光水色、歷史人 文為題，收錄作曲巨擘江文也 ( 1910-1983 )、郭芝苑 ( 1921-2013 )、關迺忠 ( 1939 - )、蘇文慶 ( 1958 - ) 及新生代作曲家曾翊玹 ( 1993 -) 等五位之作品。他 們不僅在臺灣生活過，留下生命足跡，也對當代人文有著與眾不同的微觀，藉 由他們的藝術觀點與情感表述下的音樂作品，展現臺灣豐富多彩的時代精神。

專輯中作品創作年代橫跨 82 年，從作品的素材選用、曲式結構、和聲運用等 視角，我們看見前輩作曲家以民謠、民間流傳樂種入樂，呈現當時的社會型 態及作曲家對人文情懷的關注度；新生代作曲家則拋開傳統包袱，以全新主 題及複雜聲響來書寫作品，表現年輕世代的另類思維。由此，我們更可從作 品中見到作曲家當年立足臺灣的時代脈絡與文化現象。

《臺灣・福爾摩沙》專輯匯集了作曲家、指揮家與演奏家的交流對話，透過 作品的演繹與詮釋，不僅保留了臺灣在地聲音風景，成為未來可遠可久的文 化記憶，也是身處臺灣的我們，共同寄給臺灣這片土地的一封音樂情書。

Preface-

At the turn of the 21st century, globalism became a school of thought and has exerted its influence on us all. What came as a result was another trend— localization, which entered into the minds of the public. In Taiwan’s music scene, localization led many to explore urban culture, sketching cityscapes with melodies and documenting the soundscapes of everyday life, leaving its cultural marks and bestowing upon us all the spirit of past times.

Formosa, released by the Taipei Chinese Orchestra, depicts the natural beauty, history, and cultural heritage of Taiwan. The album features compositions by such renowned composers as CHIANG WenYeh (1910–1983), KUO Chih-Yuan (1921–2013), KUAN Nai-Chung (1939–), and SU Wen-Cheng (1958–), and ZENG Yi-Xuan (1993–) from the younger generation. All of these artists have lived and left their mark in Taiwan. Through their music, they offer unique perspectives into contemporary culture; and by their artistic perspectives and lyrical expressions, they display the vibrant and diverse spirit of Taiwan through the times.

With compositions spanning 82 years, Taiwan: Formosa gives us a glimpse into the use of materials, structures, and harmonies. These works by earlier composers pull widely from folk songs and popular music that reflect the social ideologies of their time and their deep concern for culture. The younger generation of composers has bucked the bonds of tradition to explore new themes and complex soundscapes in their works, offering alternative perspectives from the youth of today. Their compositions speak to us, giving us insights into the cultural phenomena and currents of Taiwan that shaped each composer.

Formosa lets us listen in on a dialogue between composers, conductors, and musicians, whose performances and interpretations preserve the unique soundscapes of Taiwan, creating for the future an enduring memory of Taiwan’s culture. This album is a musical love letter from the people to the land of Taiwan.
